Full metal jacket
Review
In
the movie full metal jacket, you get to follow a platoon of men that
are going to the Vietnamese war, the first 45 minutes revolves around
the time spent in boot camp with the rough Sgt. Hartman the movie
opens with a scene showing how their heads get shaved, followed by a
scene picturing a speech by Hartman were he does something you will
find in many American-made war movies, he asks a random person of the
platoon a question about their origins and then tells them what he
thinks of it, often with a witty remark for example “-Where the
hell are you from private? -Texas sir! -Texas ey, only steers and
queers come from Texas and you don't look like a steer to me, so that
kinda narrows it down, do you suck dicks?
This
happens just after private “Joker” played by Matthew
Modine cracks
a joke about how the sergeant sounds during his “rounds” this is
where we really get to know who private “Joker” really is.
But
if you hear the whole of Hartmans speech you see that his intentions
are actually quite good because all he wants to do is to train thees
men into being the most capable they can for war.
Private
“Joker” eventually takes on mentoring a struggling comrade
Leonard played by Vincent D'Onofrio,
this is something the somewhat sarcastic pvt. “Joker” usually
wouldn't fit very well at but you see him teaching Leonard very well
eventually Joker passes the test.
In
the second part of the film Joker and his platoon goes to Vietnam, he
is now reporting for a magazine called stars and stripes that cover
the Vietnam war, and this part is quite gruesome.
A
scene that if you see this movie you definitely will remember is one
where they are sitting in an attack chopper and then gunman is
shooting wildly at Vietnamese farmers, and Joker asks him how he has
such ease killing innocent people including children, to which he
reply “hahaha you just don't lead them so much.
